ABOUT -
Bungee Jumping in Saraguro
Bungee jumping is part of the wide range of activities on the agenda of community tourism in the Saraguro canton, province of Loja.
This extreme sport has been practiced since August 2014 on the Sinincapac Bridge, which crosses the Chuchucil River Gorge, between Ñamarín and Gulagpamba, two kilometers before arriving in Saraguro.
The bridge is located at a height of 78 meters, on a canyon. The free fall is 60 meters, leaving a wide margin of safety with respect to the river bed for the swing or pendulum movement.
The origin of bungee jumping has as a precedent the falls of the climbers, who were left swinging in the air attached to a rope. Someone came up with the idea of replicating the strong sensation of vertigo, but by means of a controlled fall. Harnesses and dynamic ropes are safety features. They support the torso and ankles. This is an activity mainly for young people or people with a strong heart. Those who are interested in living the experience should contact the company "Runa Extreme".
The Saraguro ethnic group, in order to generate work and entrepreneurship, dedicates its work to the development of community tourism. The respect for nature, the protection of the heritage and the revaluation of customs and traditions, are the guiding principles of this activity.
Tourists can enjoy the landscape, culture, gastronomy and customs of the Saraguros. A wide range of local crafts is also available. A dairy production area, Saraguro is also nationally famous for its cheese factories.
